A podiatrist is a foot specialist and is also known as a chiropodist. The podiatry department treats the ankle, foot and connecting parts of the leg. Several foot conditions are common, including:

  • Bunions
  • Warts
  • Calluses
  • Smelly feet
  • nail and foot infections
  • Arthritis

Reasons to to see a podiatrist?

 If you have pain or injury in your foot, a podiatrist, family or other specialist doctor is required. Your pain causes are determined by the examination. Your foot may pass through several tests and scans such as:

  • Nail swab
  • X-ray
  • Ultrasound
  • Blood test
  • MRI scan

When to see a podiatrist

Your standing, walking and running are facilitated by all parts of the body because they support your weight. Your movement may be limited by any foot pain. Your feet can be damaged by some health conditions if they are not well treated.

If you have an injury or foot pain, you need to see a podiatrist immediately. If some of these symptoms persist for more than one day, you need medical care. Such symptoms include:

  • Swelling
  • Severe pain
  • Open sore or wound
  • Tingling or numbness
  • Redness, tenderness, fever or warmth

If you cannot place the weight on your foot or walk, immediately contact your podiatrist. Even if you are healthy, you need to visit your podiatrist or family doctor for a check-up to ensure your feet are healthy.
